Aluminium window prices: what is in a quotation and what moves the number
No single price per square foot is honest. This guide shows how a quotation is assembled, which choices change it most, and how to compare two quotes line by line.
THE SHORT ANSWER
A rate per square foot hides the specification, so compare itemised quotes instead
Published ranges for aluminium windows are wide because the products are not the same thing. A basic section with single glass and a window made from a tested system with thermal break, double glazing and branded hardware are both ‘aluminium windows’. One vendor guide (JK Cement, indicative and not independent) lists aluminium sliding windows at about Rs 600 to 2,200 per sq ft, depending on profile, glass, hardware, size, installation and location.
We do not publish a Gruns Fenster price list, because the price depends on drawings and site measurement. What we can do is show you the structure of a quote, so you can estimate how a change in specification moves the total, and spot a quote that is cheap because something is missing.
Six lines, and what each one scales with
Almost every aluminium window quotation is the sum of the same lines. What differs is the quantity each one scales with, and that is what lets you reason about the effect of a change without a rupee figure.
Frame and sash profile scales with the length of section used, so with perimeter and the number of sashes. The profile series (slim, standard, thermally broken) sets the rate per metre.
Glass scales with glass area and build-up. Single toughened, double glazed, low-E, laminated and acoustic builds sit at very different rates per square foot.
Hardware scales with the number of sashes and the weight they carry: rollers, locks, handles, hinges, stays. Brand and sash load rating set the rate.
Finish scales with surface area of section: mill, powder coat, anodised, dual colour, custom or coastal-grade finishes.
Installation and sealing scales with number of openings and difficulty: floor level, access, scaffolding, wall preparation, sealant and fixings.
Taxes and extras: GST, transport, flyscreens, grills, handrails. Confirm each is in or out of the figure.
One 1.5 m by 1.2 m sliding window, specified three ways
The opening is 1.8 sq m, which is about 19.4 sq ft (1 sq m is 10.764 sq ft). Its outer frame perimeter is 5.4 m. Hold the size constant and change one specification at a time.
Specification A: standard non-insulated section, single 5 mm toughened glass, powder-coated, basic hardware. Specification B: the same frame with a double-glazed unit. Only the glass line changes, and it scales with the 1.8 sq m of glass, so this is where the step appears. One Noida listing (infralens, indicative and regional) put double-glazed units at Rs 550 to 900 per sq ft against Rs 250 to 450 for 8 mm toughened single glass, roughly a doubling at the glass line, though glass is only one of six lines.
Specification C: a thermally broken system section, double low-E glass, branded hardware, dual-colour finish. Now profile, glass, hardware and finish lines all move. This is the usual reason two quotes for ‘the same window’ differ by more than the glass alone explains. A third-party price guide (studiomatrx, dated June 2026) shows the same pattern in its grade ranges: powder-coated about Rs 450 to 950 per sq ft, anodised 700 to 1,200, thermally broken 1,100 to 1,800 and branded system lines 1,500 to 3,000 or more. Its own calculator preset and grade ranges are not fully consistent, so read it as an indication of steps, not as a price.
The lesson from the example is the order of magnitude of each step. Moving from A to B changes one line. Moving from B to C changes four. If you want to control the total, decide which of those steps you need for each opening, not for the whole house.
SIZE EFFECT
Why a larger window costs more in total and often less per square foot
Double the width of the same window to 3.0 m by 1.2 m. Area doubles, from 1.8 to 3.6 sq m, so the glass line doubles. The outer perimeter goes from 5.4 m to 8.4 m, up 56 percent, so the frame rises by less than the glass. Add a second sash and the profile and hardware lines rise again, and heavier glass can move the hardware class. This is why per-square-foot rates fall on bigger openings until weight forces a heavier system.
The reverse also holds. Four small windows cost more per square foot than one large one, because each carries its own frame, hardware and installation line. When you add opening count to the quote, allow for it.
How to compare two quotations line by line
Put both quotes in the six lines above and fill the gaps. A quote that does not state the glass build-up, the hardware brand or the finish is not comparable. AluK warns that cheap windows often cut corners on materials, sealing and hardware, which then show up as drafts, seepage and upkeep. It also separates system windows, engineered and tested as a set, from windows fabricated locally from standard sections, where performance depends more on workmanship.
That does not make a lower quote wrong. It means you should know exactly what the lower number leaves out. The checklist is on the common mistakes guide, and the process we follow for measurement and fabrication is on the installation process page.
Series or model, and whether the frame is thermally broken
Finish type and colour, and whether it is dual colour
Glass build-up written as 6+12+6, with coating and safety type
Hardware brand and sash load rating
Sizes, quantity, and installation scope including sealing
GST, transport, scaffolding and flyscreens: in or out
Lead time, payment schedule and written warranty documents
Before you accept a number
Is it supply only or supply and install
Installation can be a separate line. One guide gives installation at about Rs 30 to 65 per sq ft; treat that as one source’s indication and ask for the actual line.
Is the size measured or assumed
A quote from approximate sizes is an estimate. A firm quote follows site measurement, as set out in the measurement guide.
Is GST stated
The studiomatrx guide uses 18 percent. Confirm the rate that applies to your supply and whether the quote is inclusive.
Who bears remeasurement and remake risk
Ask in writing who pays if an opening is out of tolerance after fabrication.
FAQ
Aluminium window price questions
Answers that stay true whatever the market rate is this month.
Published indicative ranges are wide, about Rs 600 to 2,200 per sq ft for sliding aluminium in one vendor guide, because specifications differ. A written quotation after site measurement is the only reliable answer for your project.
Different profile series, glass, hardware, finish and scope. The glass build-up and whether the frame is thermally broken explain most gaps. Ask each supplier for an itemised specification.
