Aluminium casement doors: hinged, multi-point locked and compression sealed

Side-hung single or double doors in AluK systems, for terraces, bedrooms and entrances where a traditional swing door is the right call. Sizes and limits stated.

WHO THEY SUIT

A hinged door when you want a firm seal and the full opening

A casement door is a hinged sash in an aluminium frame. It opens like a conventional door, closes onto a compression gasket all around, and clears the full opening when open. Where a sliding door always leaves part of the opening covered, a casement door leaves none.
That makes it the door for a master-bedroom balcony, a small terrace, French-style pairs and the entrance to a garden room. It also makes sense where a sliding track would be hard to keep clean or where you want a tight seal against rain. What you give up is swing space and the single-hand convenience of a slider.

Which AluK casement systems work at door height

The Infineo casement (C87K-CS NI) is catalogued for windows and doors. It has a hidden sash, a standard sash of 800 x 1800 mm, glass up to 32 mm, multi-point locking and a lateral handle flush with the sash, side-hung single or double, opening outward. AluK lists air 600 Pa and water 750 Pa on its ASTM tests.
45DS is a 45 mm double-overlap, non-insulated system that opens inward or outward, with glass up to 30 mm and a sash load of 80 kg. 67IW is a thermal-break system with sashes up to 1400 x 1400 mm in casement form, RC2 (WK2) burglary class and multi-point locking. AluK Home’s Versatile range supports 5 to 40 mm glazing and sashes up to 130 kg.

A 50 mm window with an aluminium core outside and timber inside, in a choice of woods and colours.

Four decisions that shape a casement door

Inward or outward

Outward doors save room space and press tighter against the frame in wind-driven rain. Inward doors keep the facade clean but need clear floor and curtain space. Wind exposure and balcony depth decide.

Single or double leaf

A double leaf gives a wide opening but needs a centre lock or flush bolt on the passive leaf. Ask how the passive leaf is held.

Hinges and weight

Door height sashes are heavy once glass is added. Ask for the hinge count and the weight limit for your glass build-up, not the catalogue maximum.

Threshold

Casement doors need a weatherproof threshold. Ask for the sill detail and the way water leaves the opening.

ALTERNATIVES

Casement, sliding or folding for a door opening

Choose a casement door for a small to medium opening with room to swing. Choose a sliding door when space is tight or the opening is wide. Choose patio doors when the garden threshold and low sill are the main concern. For matching window sashes in the same elevation, use the casement windows in the same series so the profiles and finish line up.

What to ask any supplier about a casement door

The lock and the key

Ask how many points the lock engages, and whether it is a profile cylinder you can re-key.

The glass spec

Ask which glass the door carries. Laminated or toughened glass is normal at door level. Heavier glass changes the hinge specification.

How wind is handled when open

Ask for a door stay or restrictor. An unrestrained outward door in monsoon wind damages hinges.

Casement doors in the cities we serve

We discuss hinged doors for local homes on the page for windows and doors in Belagavi. For heavy-rain conditions, the Goa page on aluminium windows in Goa carries the drainage notes that also apply to door sills. See Assagao and Margao for other door options. FAQ

Casement door questions

Figures from AluK product pages.
The Infineo casement lists a standard sash of 800 x 1800 mm. 67IW lists 1400 x 1400 mm in casement form. We confirm limits per opening and per glass.
67IW is listed with an RC2 (WK2) burglary class and multi-point locking. Other series do not list a class, so ask what your quoted system offers.
45DS opens inward or outward. The Infineo casement is described as outward opening. The choice depends on your system and wall.
67IW and 56IW are thermal-break systems. The Infineo casement and 45DS are non-insulated. The quotation should say which.
A compression seal helps, and the sill detail decides the rest. Ask for the drainage path and the threshold detail.
AluK lists dual colour on its casement systems. Ask for the colour options on your chosen series.
