THE PROBLEM WITH THE WORD

Every window seller in Belagavi says premium. Very few say what is in the frame

Search for aluminium windows in Belgaum and you mostly find directory listings with a price per piece and a phone number. Even the branded dealer page lists materials as ‘highest quality’ without giving a section depth, a glass build-up or a finish class. The word premium carries no information on its own.
So here is a checklist: the profile system, whether the frame is thermally broken, the finish, the hardware, the glass, and how the frame is fitted. A window that can answer all six in writing deserves the word. The rest of this page explains each, for a city with a hot April, a wet June to September and a nearly dry winter.

Casement, tilt-turn and sliding windows from AluK Home, and when each is used

An engineered system window is designed, tested and supplied as a complete assembly of profile, gaskets and hardware. AluK’s own article contrasts that with sections assembled by local vendors, where the result depends more on the fabricator’s workmanship. We sell AluK Home systems and have them fabricated by certified AluK Home partners.
For casement windows, the Infineo casement uses ultra-slim 65 mm profiles with a hidden sash and flush hardware, and opens outward in single or double sash. Its datasheet lists a standard sash of 800 x 1800 mm and glass up to 32 mm. For replacing older frames, AluK’s 56IW is described as suited to refurbishing older windows, with thermal break and up to 36 mm glass. The 45DS is a 45 mm system that opens inward or outward, casement or tilt-turn.
Where a casement is not the right shape, sliding windows from the SC45 series use a 33 mm visible interlock. That is the one to look at for small bedroom or kitchen openings where the sash would otherwise swing into a wardrobe or a worktop.

Four local questions for a window specification

Ventilation for eight dry months

Belagavi sits near 770 to 784 m, and the winters are nearly dry with cool nights. Windows are open most of the year. That favours casement sashes, which open fully for airflow, over fixed panes, and it makes the flyscreen and the lock position more important than the thermal rating.

Heat and hail in April

Mean maximum temperature in April is close to 36 C and hailstorms occasionally occur then. Laminated glass is a safety glass, coated glass controls heat and UV, and both can be combined with double glazing. Ask for the full build-up on the quote, because the glass is usually the largest single cost item.

Humidity in the rainy months

Relative humidity averages about 74% at the city station. Aluminium does not rust or swell the way timber does, which is the usual reason owners replace timber frames. Gaskets and hardware are the parts that age, so ask which are replaceable on site.

Older houses and new apartments

Hanuman Nagar and Ram Nagar are listed for independent houses, and Tilakwadi and Angol have apartments. In an old house the plaster, the opening size and the existing frame decide how a new window is fitted. In a new apartment the builder’s elevation often fixes the colour and the opening size.

A buyer's checklist for a premium window quote

Put these six lines next to each quote you receive. If one is missing, ask for it before you compare totals. We answer the same questions ourselves.
  • System named: a profile series you can look up, not a thickness in millimetres alone.

  • Finish: the colour name, the process and a certificate. AluK's Signature Palette lists eight tones in matt, texture and metallic.
  • Glass: thickness, laminated or toughened, coated or clear, double or single, per pane.
  • Hardware: hinge and lock type, multi-point locking, and whether parts can be replaced.

What to check before ordering from anyone

Ask what 'tested' means

AluK publishes air, water and wind classes for its systems on its own pages, and these are European or ASTM labels, not Indian certification marks. Ask any supplier which test, which configuration and whose report. If the answer is a general claim of being weatherproof, treat it as marketing.

Check the Indian standard for the product

IS 1948:2024 ‘Aluminium Framed Doors, Windows and Sliders’ replaced the withdrawn 1961 standards in June 2024. A BIS order is reported but its status should be confirmed with BIS directly. Ask what your supplier’s position is and get it in writing.

See the actual product

A brochure photo cannot tell you whether a handle feels cheap. Ask where a full-size sample can be seen, and ask to hold the section. A showroom visit costs an afternoon and saves a replacement.

Usually yes, though each opening is different. We look at the wall around the old frame, the plaster and the way it was fixed before we confirm a method. AluK’s 56IW is described as suited to refurbishing older windows.
AluK states that aluminium’s strength allows slim profiles to carry large panels. On its Infineo sliding door a 21 mm interlock is listed. For windows, sash size limits still apply and are in the datasheet for each system.
Belagavi is inland, so the coastal salt issue is less relevant than on the Konkan coast. Pick a colour you like and ask for the finish certificate. AluK offers high-resistance finishes for aggressive environments on request, which you should not need here.
