Windows for a twin city with two different building stocks

Hubballi has the newer growth areas: Gokul Road, Navanagar, Unkal and Gabbur. Dharwad sits on higher ground, is a little cooler (April and May means near 35 C against Hubballi’s 40 C), and tends to have older houses where the question is often what to do with a wooden frame that has swollen and cracked.
New construction asks for a window specified at the drawing stage. Replacement asks something harder: whether the existing opening, plaster and lintel will take a new frame without damage. Casement or sliding: which AluK window fits

Casement windows hang on hinges and close against a seal on all four sides, which gives the tightest closure and a full opening for ventilation. Sliding windows run on a track and suit wide openings where a swinging sash would be in the way. Most Hubballi-Dharwad houses use both: casements in bedrooms and kitchens, sliding windows where the opening is wide.
The Infineo casement (C87K-CS NI) uses 65 mm profiles with a hidden sash, opens outward and has a standard sash of 800 x 1800 mm. For heat-conscious rooms, AluK’s 67IW thermally broken series takes glass up to 60 mm and lists an RC2 burglary class. For refurbishment, the 56IW series is described by AluK as suited to older windows.

What changes for windows in Hubballi-Dharwad

Replacing an old Dharwad frame

Pulling out a wooden frame can crack plaster and open gaps at the lintel. We look at the wall at measurement and tell you whether the new frame can be fixed to the existing opening or whether a fresh reveal is needed. Expect some plaster repair and painting to be part of the job, not an afterthought.

Dry heat and night ventilation

With April highs near 40 C in Hubballi and a late-February to early-June dry spell, windows that open fully and stay open at night do real work. Casements with a stay and a flyscreen let a room shed the day’s heat. Sliding windows open only half the width, so choose by what the room needs.

Plot houses near Unkal and Gabbur

Detached houses on newer plots usually have four exposed walls, so windows on every side take sun and wind. Ask for the elevations to be reviewed by orientation: slimmer, larger glass on the shaded north face, smaller or shaded openings to the west.

Choosing between window types

Use these criteria before you look at colours or handles:
  • Bedroom or kitchen where full ventilation matters: casement windows, because the whole sash opens.
  • Opening wider than a single casement sash can span: sliding windows, or a fixed pane with a smaller opening sash.
  • A view you want unbroken, with ventilation from a separate opening: fixed glass windows beside a casement.
  • A bedroom facing a main road: read about noise-reducing windows and ask for laminated glass.
  • An older house where you want slimmer frames and more glass: slimline windows, after a wall check.
  • A balcony or terrace opening that is really a door: move to sliding doors in Hubballi-Dharwad.

Send a photo of each window from inside and outside, with a rough width and height. For an older house, add a photo of the frame joint where it meets the wall.

What to check when buying aluminium windows

Is it a system or an assembled section?

AluK describes system windows as designed, engineered and tested as a whole, while ordinary fabricated windows depend more on workmanship. Ask which one you are quoted, and for the section drawing either way.

What standard does the window refer to?

IS 1948:2024, Aluminium Framed Doors, Windows and Sliders, replaced the 1961 standards in June 2024. Ask your supplier what they claim against it. We do not claim BIS certification for AluK systems and would be wary of anyone who does without showing the certificate.

What is written about the finish?

AluK states Qualicoat-certified technology for its Signature Palette. Ask for the class and certificate for your exact colour, and whether a higher-resistance finish is on offer. Read the maintenance guide for what care the finish needs.
