Aluminium window price by size: 3 x 3, 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 ft worked through

Size sets the area you are billed on, but not every line in a quote grows with area. This guide works through three common sizes so you can read a per size quote and check the arithmetic yourself.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Area grows faster than the frame, so price does not scale evenly with size

Aluminium window price by size starts with area: 3 x 3 ft is 9 sq ft, 4 x 4 ft is 16 sq ft, 5 x 5 ft is 25 sq ft. Fabricators bill area times a rate per sq ft, but hardware goes per sash and frame length follows the perimeter. No source publishes a fixed price per size.
So the honest answer is a method, not a number. Gruns Fenster prices only after measuring the actual opening, because a nominal 4 x 4 ft opening can measure differently on site. AluK Home system windows are a specification, not a commodity sold by the square foot. For published ranges by window type, see our aluminium window price per sq ft guide.

Area and perimeter for common window sizes

The numbers every per size quote is built on. Area drives glass and per sq ft billing; perimeter drives the length of frame section.
Size (W x H)AreaFrame perimeterArea in sq mSize in mm
3 x 3 ft9 sq ft12 ft0.836914 x 914
3 x 4 ft12 sq ft14 ft1.115914 x 1219
4 x 4 ft16 sq ft16 ft1.4861219 x 1219
4 x 5 ft20 sq ft18 ft1.8581219 x 1524
5 x 5 ft25 sq ft20 ft2.3231524 x 1524

Arithmetic only: 1 sq ft = 0.0929 sq m and 1 ft = 304.8 mm. Perimeter is the outer frame; sashes and interlocks add more section.

Which quote lines grow with area, perimeter or sash count

From 3 x 3 ft to 5 x 5 ft the area grows from 9 to 25 sq ft, nearly three times. The perimeter grows from 12 to 20 ft, only two thirds more. The number of sashes may not change at all. That mismatch is why the lines of a quote behave differently as size changes.

Because hardware and fitting do not shrink with the window, small windows tend to cost more per sq ft than large ones. That is arithmetic rather than a market rule, but it holds for any quote built this way.

WHAT CHANGES BETWEEN SIZES

What changes between a 3 x 3 and a 5 x 5 ft window besides area

Glass thickness. Larger panes are usually specified in thicker or toughened glass so they stay stiff and safe. Glass weighs about 2.5 kg per sq m for every millimetre of thickness, so 5 mm glass is about 12.5 kg per sq m and 8 mm about 20 kg. A 5 x 5 ft opening holds up to 2.3 sq m of glass against 0.84 sq m in a 3 x 3 ft window. Ask what thickness each size gets; our window glass guide explains the choices.
Hardware load. At 3 x 3 ft, each sash of a two-sash slider is about 1.5 by 3 ft, roughly 4.5 sq ft of glass. At 5 x 5 ft each is about 2.5 by 5 ft, 12.5 sq ft, nearly three times the weight on the same number of rollers. Ask which roller and hinge rating each size uses.
Tracks and sashes. A small window may be two sashes on two tracks. A larger one may become three sashes, gain a third track for mosquito mesh, or pair a fixed pane with a sliding one. Each change moves the hardware and section lines more than area does. Doors show the same effect at a larger scale, as our sliding door price breakdown and aluminium door price guide explain.

How a published rate per sq ft scales across 3 x 3, 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 ft

Published guides list standard powder-coated aluminium windows at roughly Rs 300 to 950 per sq ft (Houseyog, May 2026; Studiomatrx, June 2026) and thermally broken or system windows at about Rs 1,100 to 3,000 (Studiomatrx, June 2026). Multiplying by area shows how the frame line scales. This is arithmetic on published ranges, not a quote; it excludes glass upgrades, hardware, fitting and GST, and specification decides where a real window falls.

The only worked example for a specific size: 4 x 4 ft

One published guide works through a 4 x 4 ft window three ways (Studiomatrx, June 2026): a budget build at Rs 12,390, a mid build with double glazing at Rs 25,488 and a premium system build with low-E double glazing at Rs 52,864, each including hardware, fitting and 18% GST, with civil work extra. It is a vendor example, not a market price, and your specification decides the number.
What it does show is structure. In the budget build the frame is about three quarters of the subtotal and hardware about a seventh. In the premium build, glass and hardware together rise to nearly a third. As specification rises, the lines that do not scale with area carry more of the price.

READING THE QUOTE

How to read a per size quote

A good per size quote lets you redo the arithmetic yourself. If you cannot, ask for the missing lines before you compare totals. Our quotation calculator does the sums once you have them.

Three mistakes when comparing window prices by size

Comparing per sq ft rates across sizes

A ventilator and a living room window quoted at the same rate are not priced the same way underneath. Small windows carry hardware and fitting on few square feet. Compare the total for each opening, and the specification behind it.

Measuring the glass instead of the opening

Published calculators use the structural opening, not the glass alone. If one supplier measures the glass and another the opening, their rates per sq ft are not comparable, even for the same window. Our measurement guide shows how sizes are taken.

Ignoring the configuration

A 5 x 5 ft window as two sashes, three sashes, or one fixed and one sliding pane gives three different products. Ask each supplier to quote the same configuration, or to price two so you can see the difference.

FAQ

Window price by size: common questions

Answers to the size questions people search for.
A 3 x 3 ft window is 9 sq ft. Published guides list standard powder-coated aluminium windows at roughly Rs 300 to 950 per sq ft (Houseyog, May 2026), which works out to about Rs 2,700 to 8,550 for the frame line before glass upgrades, hardware, fitting and GST. That is arithmetic, not a quote. No source publishes a fixed price for this size, and specification decides the number.
A 4 x 4 ft window is 16 sq ft. One published guide’s worked example gives Rs 12,390 for a budget build, Rs 25,488 with double glazing and Rs 52,864 for a premium system window, each including hardware, fitting and GST (Studiomatrx, June 2026). It is a vendor example rather than a market price, and your specification decides the number.
A 5 x 5 ft window is 25 sq ft with a 20 ft frame perimeter. At published standard rates of roughly Rs 300 to 950 per sq ft (Houseyog, May 2026), the frame line comes to about Rs 7,500 to 23,750 before glass, hardware, fitting and GST. Larger sashes may need thicker glass and stronger rollers, so specification decides the number.
Published guides place aluminium as the lower-cost, low-maintenance mainstream choice and describe steel windows as premium and niche, broadly in line with or above premium aluminium systems (Studiomatrx, June 2026). We found no published per sq ft figure for steel. Steel can last longer when galvanised and coated, but rusts where the coating is breached. For uPVC, see aluminium vs uPVC windows.
Multiply width by height in feet for each opening, add the openings and multiply by the quoted rate per sq ft. Then add the lines outside the rate, such as glass upgrades, hardware, fitting and civil work, and add GST. Our aluminium window price calculator does this from your own quotation and shows the all-in rate.
Take the width and height of the wall opening in feet, not the glass alone, multiply them, and repeat for each window. A published calculator guide uses the structural opening for this reason. Ask your fabricator which size they bill on, the opening, the frame or the glass, because one window gives three different areas.
Often, because area grows faster than frame length and the hardware count may stay the same. From 3 x 3 ft to 5 x 5 ft the area rises almost threefold while the perimeter rises by two thirds. The pattern breaks when glass weight forces thicker glass, more sashes or heavier hardware.
