Soundproof windows price in India: what the published figures cover

Acoustic windows are sold with big decibel numbers and wide price ranges. This guide sets out the published rates, what each upgrade step adds to the glass line, and what a quote must show before the numbers mean anything.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Most of the price sits in the glass, and most of the result sits in the seals

The soundproof windows price in India, going by directory listings, runs from about Rs 400 to 1,000 per sq ft for double-glazed uPVC and aluminium windows, with acoustic and triple-glazed units listed up to Rs 4,000 (IndiaMART, October 2026). These are seller asking prices, and the noise claims beside them are not test results.
Soundproof is a sales word. No source we found supports a window that makes a room silent, so read it as noise-reducing. The glass build-up drives most of the price difference, while seals, the opening type and the joint between frame and wall decide much of the result. AluK Home says double glazing improves insulation and reduces noise, and stresses that sealing and installation matter down to minor gaps and misalignment. We price after measuring the opening, and we ask for test data on the exact glass and frame rather than quoting a decibel figure.

Why seller decibel claims cannot be compared

The same IndiaMART category shows the same glass described two ways. A 6-12-6 double-glazed uPVC slider is listed at 25 to 30 dB by a seller in Nagpur and at 40 to 45 dB by one in Ahmedabad. An aluminium double-glazed slider in Mumbai claims 60 to 65 dB. Another listing names both double and triple glazing, with 50 dB and above 45 dB in the same entry. None of these listings cites a test, a test standard or the size of the sample.
A rating only means something for the assembly that was tested. Ask for a laboratory test report on the whole window, glass and frame together, that names the standard used and gives Rw or STC, plus OITC if available. Rw and STC come from different standards and are not interchangeable, and one or two points of STC difference is barely audible, according to reference sources. Our guide to soundproofing windows explains what each rating measures.

COST LADDER

What each upgrade step adds, cheapest first

Seals and the wall joint

The lowest cost step and often the first to try. One guide says a 1 mm air leak can undo a 50 dB pane. Asian Paints warns that cheap gaskets harden and shrink within a couple of years, and that the gap between frame and wall should be filled, not left hollow. Ask for EPDM gaskets.

Double glazing

An air-filled unit is listed at Rs 250 to 450 per sq ft of glass, and argon with low-E at Rs 400 to 650, about Rs 150 to 200 more on that guide’s own ranges. Reference sources warn that ordinary double glazing often does poorly against low-frequency traffic noise.

Acoustic laminated glass with unequal panes

Listed at Rs 600 to 1,200 per sq ft, which is about Rs 350 to 750 more than air-filled double glazing and Rs 200 to 550 more than argon low-E, by our arithmetic on one guide’s ranges. A softer acoustic interlayer damps vibration, and unequal pane thicknesses stop both panes resonating at the same frequency.

Opening type, frame or a second window

A guide says casements press onto continuous gaskets and outperform sliders, whose brush seals leak air and sound. For uPVC, Asian Paints expects roughly 20 to 40 percent over standard window prices for a noise-reducing version. Reference sources add that a second interior window also cuts noise.

What the glass step costs on one bedroom window

Take a bedroom window 4 ft by 4 ft, so 16 sq ft. Moving from air-filled double glazing to acoustic laminated glass with unequal panes adds Rs 350 to 750 per sq ft on the published guide’s ranges, or about Rs 5,600 to 12,000 on that window, before 18% GST. That is arithmetic on one vendor guide, not a quote, and the glass area is a little smaller than the opening once the frame is counted.
The same step on a 7 ft by 7 ft balcony door, 49 sq ft, adds about Rs 17,150 to 36,750 on the same ranges. Heavier glass may also need heavier hardware, which no glass price includes. Our window price calculator lets you add frame, glass, fitting and GST lines to a quoted rate, and our aluminium window price guide lists published frame rates by type.

Which windows deserve the acoustic upgrade

Acoustic glass is priced per square foot, so spend it where the noise arrives. A bedroom facing a main road and a store room at the back of the house rarely need the same build-up. Start with the elevation facing the source, then decide room by room.
For context, the CPCB ambient noise limits for residential areas are 55 dB(A) by day and 45 dB(A) at night under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, as reported in a 2020 news article. Those are outdoor limits, not an indoor target, and no source we found links them to a window rating.
Seals and installation come before glass in the cost ladder above. A heavy acoustic unit in a sliding frame with worn brushes, or set in a hollow joint, wastes much of its cost. If the frame material is still open, our aluminium vs uPVC comparison sets out the criteria, and the aluminium vs steel windows guide covers weight and slim frames. Our noise-reducing windows page shows how we specify glass, seals and the wall joint together.
The same laminated glass appears in balcony railings, and if a railing is going in front of the noisy opening, our glass railing price guide explains why railing quotes come in two different units.

FAQ

Soundproof window price questions

Answers to the noise and cost questions people search for most.
Directory listings put double-glazed soundproof windows at about Rs 400 to 1,000 per sq ft, with acoustic or triple-glazed units listed up to Rs 4,000 (IndiaMART, October 2026). One guide prices acoustic laminated double glazing at Rs 600 to 1,200 per sq ft for the glass alone, before frame and 18% GST (Studiomatrx, June 2026). Your figure follows measurement and specification.
Somewhat, when they are well sealed into the frame and the wall. Reference sources note that ordinary double glazing often performs poorly against low-frequency traffic noise because of resonance. Laminated acoustic glass, and panes of different thickness, do better. Gaskets and the frame-to-wall joint decide how much of the glass rating you actually hear.
Guides point to laminated glass with an acoustic interlayer, set in a double-glazed unit with panes of different thickness. The softer interlayer damps vibration, and unequal panes stop both resonating at the same frequency. It is also the dearest build on the published ranges, so use it on the windows that face the noise.
There is no standard figure. Seller claims on one directory range from 25 to 65 dB for similar-looking windows, and the same 6-12-6 glass appears at 25 to 30 dB with one seller and 40 to 45 dB with another. Ask for a laboratory Rw or STC report on the whole window, and remember that installation changes the result.
Laminated glass reduces sound more than single glass of the same thickness, according to reference sources, and an acoustic interlayer does better than a standard one. That makes a single laminated pane a possible middle step between plain glass and an acoustic double-glazed unit. Ask the supplier for the tested rating of that exact pane and frame before choosing.
Often not. The guide whose glass figures appear above says to add 18% GST, and directory rates rarely say whether frame, hardware and fitting are included. Asian Paints advises checking whether a quote covers the acoustic glass or only the base frame. Ask for the unit, every inclusion and the GST line in writing.
Often, yes, at lower cost. Sealing gaps, replacing hardened gaskets and filling a hollow frame-to-wall joint are the cheapest steps, and a second interior window can also cut noise. Our step-by-step soundproofing guide covers these fixes before you price new acoustic glass.
