Aluminium sliding doors for Goa homes that sit empty half the year

AluK Home sliding doors for Goan villas, apartments and holiday homes, specified for four months of monsoon rain, salt air and long periods when nobody is there to wipe a track or check a lock.

WHAT GOA ASKS OF A DOOR

A sliding door in Goa works in two climates and often in two kinds of ownership

Goa’s southwest monsoon runs from June to September and brings over 90% of the year’s roughly 3,000 mm of rain. For the other eight months the same door faces strong sun, humid heat that peaks in May, and air carrying salt from the Arabian Sea and from estuaries such as the Mandovi and Zuari that reach well inland.
The second difference is how Goan houses are used. A large share of villas and apartments are holiday homes or second homes that may be closed for weeks. A sliding door suits that pattern because it takes up no swing space and can carry a lot of glass, but only if the track drains on its own and the locks are specified for an owner who is not there. Our aluminium sliding doors page covers the product in general. This page covers what changes in Goa.

Which AluK sliding system fits which Goan opening

For a villa living room, pool deck or garden wall of glass we normally start with the AluK Infineo sliding door. AluK lists a 21 mm interlock, a handle that shows 35 mm when the sash is closed, a concealed outer frame, and a standard sash of 3000 x 3500 mm. Sash load is 350 kg or 450 kg depending on the interlock option, and glass up to 32 mm thick can be fitted.
For apartment balconies and bedrooms the slimmer series are usually enough. AluK lists SC45 as a 45 mm system with up to 120 kg per sash and describes it for tropical and hot climates, with a wider track and deeper gutter for drainage. S115NI takes up to 300 kg per shutter and offers an integrated flyscreen. Which series is right depends on width, height and glass weight, so we confirm it against your measured opening.

Look inside the frame

Cut sections of AluK systems show what you are actually buying: chamber layout, glazing pocket, track and threshold.

SC140TT thermally broken sliding and lift and slide

A 140 mm thermally broken system for sliding and lift and slide doors. Glass 10 to 40 mm, up to 300 kg per sash and 400 kg with a trolley.

Four things that decide whether a Goan sliding door stays trouble-free

Drainage in a four-month downpour

Sliding frames shed water through channels and weep holes in the track, and blocked weep holes are a common cause of leaks. In Goa the track fills with sand, leaf litter and salt crust by June. Ask where the water leaves, make sure the exit is not buried under tile or a raised sill, and clean the channel before the first rains.

Salt on frames and hardware

Salt-laden air collects on frames, rollers and handles even a few kilometres inland near estuaries. AluK says its aluminium does not rust and offers customised finishes for aggressive environments on request. Ask for the finish and the hardware material in writing, and rinse the frame with plain water after the dry season.

Doors left unattended

A holiday home door needs multi-point locking, a handle that locks from inside and, ideally, a slider that cannot be lifted out. AluK lists single-point and multi-point locks on Infineo. Local news has reported villa break-ins through windows and back doors. That is not a trend. It is still a reason to specify the lock before the look.

Pool decks and wet feet

Pool-side doors see wet feet, chlorine splash and children. A flush threshold helps with access and AluK describes its Infineo bottom track as wheelchair-friendly. Check that tile falls away from the track and that the outdoor floor sits lower than the interior floor.

HOW TO DECIDE

Sliding, lift and slide, or folding for a Goa opening

A standard sliding door is the sensible default. Move to a different system only when the opening gives you a reason. Use these checks against your own drawing:

From enquiry to installation for a Goa project

Send the drawing or call

Share the plan, photographs and location through the quote request or call +91 89704 69999. Tell us if the house is a holiday home so we plan for locks and absences.

See the systems in Belagavi

Our showroom in Tilakwadi, Belagavi, has full-size sliding, folding and casement systems. Visiting is optional but useful for judging sightlines, handles and glass weight.

Site measurement arranged per project

We do not run a Goa office. A site visit for measurement is arranged per project, and coverage is confirmed before you commit. We do not give final sizes until the opening is measured.

Fabrication and delivery

Frames are fabricated by certified AluK Home partners to the measured sizes and the finish you approved in writing.

Installation and aftercare

We coordinate installation, then walk through drain clearing, lock use and the pre-monsoon routine.

What to ask any supplier of sliding doors in Goa

Where does the water go?

Ask for the drainage detail of the exact track: number and position of weep holes, and whether they stay open once the threshold is tiled. A supplier who cannot draw it has not designed it.

What is the finish and its certificate?

Powder coat and anodising are different protections, and powder-coat durability classes differ. Ask which finish, which class, and for the certificate for your colour, not a generic brochure line.

Which glass and which locks?

Ask for the glass build-up in writing, including whether it is toughened or laminated, and the lock type per sash. Security and noise depend on both.

FAQ

Questions Goa homeowners ask about sliding doors

Short answers, no sales pitch.
A correctly installed door with open drainage should not. Water that reaches the track is meant to leave through weep holes, so leaks usually come from blocked drains, tile levels that trap water or poor sealing at the frame edge. Ask where the water exits, and clear the track before June.
AluK describes its aluminium as corrosion-resistant and offers high-resistance finishes for aggressive environments on request. Salt can still stain or pit a weak finish and attack poor hardware. Specify the finish and hardware material in writing and rinse frames with plain water.
Multi-point locks make a sliding door harder to force. They do not replace sensible habits. Lock every sash, keep a clear view of the door from a lit area where possible, and tell local police about long absences, as Goa police have asked residents to do.
AluK lists a standard sash of 3000 mm width and 3500 mm height, and quotes panel size up to 3.5 m in height or width. Real limits depend on glass weight and configuration, so we confirm against your measured opening.
No. Our showroom is in Tilakwadi, Belagavi. Projects in Goa are arranged per project, and we confirm coverage and the site visit before you commit.
Some AluK series offer it: S115NI lists an integrated flyscreen, and SC45 and SC40 list a built-in mosquito frame. Availability depends on the series chosen for your opening.
